Top-Notch Airport Restaurants

The next time your flight got delayed or you had to go for a layover, don’t fret. You won’t have to go slumming at airport restaurant and fast-food chains. Travel expert Harriet Baskas of, and author of "Stuck at the Airport’ blog, recommends checking out some of today’s top-notch restaurants. That’s not to say that it’s a lot of fun getting stuck at airports. But the following restaurants who received glowing marks from Baskas will surely lift your spirits a little.

Vino Volo wine bar

Derived from the Italian "wine flight", this bar offers great wine selections with small plates of artisan cheeses and cured meats. Vino Volo is located in the following airports: Seattle, San Antonio, Detroit, Baltimore, LAX and JFK.

Todd English’s restaurants

The celebrated chef has been hanging around airports recently – well his restaurants do. English’s Bonfire Steakhouse is located at Boston’s Logan and NYC’s JFK, while Figs can be found at LaGuardia.

La Carreta

Located at the Miami Airport, La Carreta is a favorite among visitors and locals.

The Encounter

You know that building at LAX, the one that looks like a UFO? The Encounter is located on top of that. It’s a really happening restaurant despite its name being fit for an alien-themed movie.


New York’s most famous steakhouse has come to Newark Airport. O Joy!


Anthony’s a great seafood restaurant located at Seattle-Tacoma International, and has a commanding view of the runway.

Rose City Café and Stanford’s Restaurant

Portland, Oregon’s International Airport is home to Rose City Café, an elegant wine bar, and Stanford’s, a restaurant which offers steaks and seafoods.

One Flew

The high-end restaurant has made a home in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, bringing with it it’s ritzy "southernational" cuisine.

San Francisco International Airport

San Francisco International houses some of the best restaurants. Its international terminal is home to Firewood Grill and a number of sushi restaurants such as Osho Japanese Cuisine and Tomokazu. In SF International’s Domestic terminal has Bradley Ogden’s delish Yankee Pier restaurant.

French Meadow Bakery Café & Ike’s Food and Cocktails

Minneapolis International Airport is home to Ike’s, a local favorite and actually has two French Meadow Bakery Cafés.

La Vie and Piquillo

JetBlue’s Terminal 5 at JFK has offers sumptuous food choices such as La Vie, a French Café and Piquillo, a tapas bar.
