Venice Eating and Drinking Guide

veniceIf you happen to find yourself in Venice, then make sure you set aside ample time for dining and eating because those two things can never be separated from this place. Venice is home to some of the best restaurants that you will ever come to. You have so many selections in this Italian city.

You have restaurants that serve specialties such as polenta which is made of corn meal, risotto with cuttlefish ink sauce and so many other foods. If, however, you find yourself being pimped by a waiter to go inside a restaurant then it would do you good to avoid such an establishment.

One of the best foods that you will probably eat in Venice is their trademark food which is cuttlefish in its ink. The black ink serves as a sauce and is an ingredient for "polenta" or corn meal, "risotto" or rice and pasta. These dishes are normally indicated by "alla sepia" which translates to "in the style of cuttlefish" or "nero di sepia" which means "black of the cuttlefish".

One of the things that you should look out for is the prices of the meat. The price indicated is essentially just for 100 grams of the meat. Because one of the dishes there can contain 400 grams of fish or meat , it will essentially cost you four times as much when you order such a meal.

If you want fresh fruit, which also includes chilled coconut, be sure that you usually watch out for the street market stalls.

If you want to be able to save money during lunch time, be sure to go to an establishment where it allows you to stand up. Several stalls might be a good idea instead of a restaurant. The prices almost double whenever you decide to dine and sit-in a restaurant.

If you plan on a nighttime "pub crawl", then you should visit Piazza San Marco which has a very pleasant night scene. Another great place to visit is Campo Santa Margherita which is near the University Ca’Foscari in Dorsoduro.

The Rialto Bridge is also a nice place to go to. For the types of drinks, be sure to try a "spritz" with either Campari, Select or Aperol and if you’re game to drink an almost pure alcohol drink, try the Veneto Grappa. It will surely surprise you.
