Seattle is a big town and if you spend some time in the city, you’ll discover that you’ll have so much to see and experience in this great and lovely city. The city is sprawling with so many types of festivities that you won’t be able to keep track of them once you get the hang of it.
The city of Seattle is big on events. They have the annual seafair which is launched on July and early August. There are different neighborhood street fairs which run throughout the festival. There’s a downtown Torchlight Parade in the latter weeks of July. The Seafair culminates in the early weeks of August when the hydroplane races start. They bring this type of racing event to Lake Washington.
There’s also a music and arts festival which is held on the weekend of Labor Day which is called the "Bumbershoot". This features so many world-class musical performances by the townsfolk so be sure to make time for this. There’s another more low-key version of the Bumbershoot which is held in Seattle Center on Memorial Day weekend this time. This is around the end of May so you should try and make time for that. There’s a $10 donation that they request per day but it really isn’t required.
If music and arts aren’t your thing, then you might want to wait for mid to late July in the Seattle Center where the Seafair festivities features an eat-all-you-can bonanza. This is one of the most fun activities that you’ll be able to experience when you’re in this city.
One of the most engaging and weirdest festivals in Seattle is done in mid-August. This is the annual "Hempfest" which is a celebration of marijuana. This is a rally that attracts so many political speakers, vendors, food and bands which are pro-marijuana. There is a lot of open pot smoking by the demonstrators who are pushing for political reform as well as the legalization of marijuana.
Lastly, if you’re simply looking for a weird festival, why not attend the Gay Pride Parade which is a venue for lesbians and gays alike to express their love and to appreciate the people who support them for it.
You probably never thought that Seattle was this wild and this alive especially during the summer months. If you’re going to participate, be sure to always keep an open mind, a stomach that can take loads of food and a carefree spirit to top it off.
